parity, and life without durham
21 July 2008Through games of Sunday (July 20), there are 13 baseball teams in first place or within three games of first place. Thanks to my lovely employer STATS LLC, I can tell you that’s the most teams within three games of first on the morning of July 21 since 1983 (14) and the third most ever (1915 - also 14). 2008 is a fun season, unless you happen to bleed orange and black.
As for the Durham deal… what can I say? Keith Law believes the two prospects the Giants picked up are long-shots at best to be major league contributors. Law sums it up best by adding: “It’s close to a zero return for Durham, although we’ve had no indication he had other suitors, and middle infielders with negative defensive value tend to not bring much in trades. ”
So there it is. The Giants got basically nothing back for a player that was contributing very little. Yippee!
Personally, I like Ray Durham. He seemed to enjoy playing ball, and smiled big… the way I would smile if I got to play baseball every day.
